Unibroue La Fin du Monde

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of a) attending the Brewmasters International Beer Festival and b) trying two Unibroue beers, the Ephemere and Trois Pistoles. Both were fantastic, definitely some of my favorites at the festival. The La Fin Du Monde was also available, but since I knew I would try it at Brew Nite at the Saucer tonight and get a sweet glass, I decided to forgo the taste at the beer fest. Good decision! The beer and the tulip glass together was $7.50 which I considered a good deal since last week’s Brew Nite- Orval Trappist Ale was $11.

The Taste:
The Unibroue poured a nice golden color with a perfect head, and smelled of spices and fruits. This beer is rather sweet, but has a nice dry finish with no crazy aftertastes. It was very drinkable for a high ABV. I noticed this with both of the Unibroues I have already tried. Overall, good beer, I would order it again and maybe even buy the expensive 4 pack.

The “other” beer I tried:

As an aside to Brew Nite, I met some older gentlemen at the bar, one of whom I stole his chair, who said I “looked like a lawyer”. Maybe it was my glasses… Anyway, they were chatting and asked me if I had ever tried the “gayest beer in the world” (I don’t advocate homophobia, nor using it as a slander) to which I responded that I wasn’t sure which beer they meant. They proceeded to order me a Lindemans Framoise, which comes in a cute little white wine/champagne glass.

Style: Lambic

The Taste:
It is VERY dark pink in color, with a light pink head. It smells of sweet fruit juice, and tastes like something a 17 year old would order with her parents. A raspberry mojito/martini/margarita of sorts. Not my first Lambic beer and probably not my last, but definitely cannot drink more than the 6 oz serving, nor would I want to. It was fun to try, and free too! hahah suckers.
