Houston Beer Week Gameplan

October 8, 2010

Beer, Grub

I’m sure most of you have heard of Houston Beer Week, starting Sunday October 10 and ending Sunday October 17, with a bang- Monsters of Beer.  So I decided to lay out my plans for the week and try to squeeze as much in as possible!

Monday October 11: Beer dinner at Beaver’s. JJ from Beaver’s preparing a 5 course meal and Ben from Petrol Station pairing the beers. I love both of these places so it was really a no-brainer.

Tuesday October 12: Moylan Brewery Tasting at Petrol Station. “Moylan’s is sending a keg of their barrel-aged Kilt Lifter Scotch-style Ale that was aged in an applebrandy/port/rum barrel.” Hell yes.

Wednesday October 13: The Gingerman Pub is hosting a “‘Big Beer’ Formal tasting with Ash Rowell of Duff Distributors and Joe Jackson of The Ginger Man Pub.  Guests will enjoy beers from Moylan’s, Bear Republic, Brew Dog, Pike Brewery and Southern Star.” Another hell yes. Then, at Flying Saucer it is brew nite and it features Stone, along with a representative from Stone and beer specials all night.

Thursday October 14: Probably my most anticipated event- The Dogfish Head Scavenger hunt, organized by the awesome dudes at Petrol Station (see why I love that place so much?) which is 10 days of vintage beers being scattered across town. You must have the password to taste the beer, if you can even figure out where it will be! This reminds me of the Carmen San Diego board game from back in the day. haha.

Friday October 15: The wonderful Jennifer over at Texas Girls Pint Out is hosting a rare beer tasting at Spec‘s downtown, with a selection of midwestern beers that we can’t even get in Texas! YES!

Saturday October 16: This is a new event to me, since I last stalked the HBW website: Kitchen Incubator, a cooking school and cafe, is hosting a FREE Beer and food pairing event from 9 Am-10 Am (beer for Breakfast!!) Downtown near Hearsay.  “They will be sampling beers not currently available in Texas along with local favorites paired with such goodies as bacon brownies, beer tres leches and beer ice cream (made by Troy from Petrol Station!)” Again- my love for Petrol Station!

Sunday October 17: WOO!! Monsters of Beer time! From 12-6 Pm downtown at 13 Celsius Breweries from Texas will be showcasing their beers, along with a silent auction and various food vendors. Since Cathy from Live it Big is putting this together, it is sure to not disappoint!

I am SO READY for all the awesome beer and food of Houston Beer Week! Expect drunken tweets and multiple posts on how badass this week was! :)
